Description
The project aims to contribute to forest preservation by promoting sustainable agrifood systems and the transition to legal, sustainable and deforestation-free value chains aligned with the European Union Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR). To this end, it provides technical assistance, strengthens the capacities of value chain actors and smallholder producers, scales up traceability and due diligence systems, facilitates access to finance for deforestation-free production, and promotes exchange among multiple stakeholders.
Observations
The end date corresponds to March 2028, according to the implementation period published on the official project page and in the updated GIZ factsheet (2026). Earlier versions of the factsheet (February 2024) indicated implementation from January 2022 to May 2026 and a budget of EUR 33.75 million, co-financed by the EU and BMZ; the project was later extended in countries, duration and funding.
