Scaling up climate-resilient water management practices for vulnerable communities in La Mojana, Colombia

The project focuses on increasing climate resilience in one of the most vulnerable regions of Colombia. This project, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the National Adaptation Fund of Colombia, addresses the impacts of climate change, such as extreme flooding and prolonged droughts, which severely affect the local population. Through this project, climate-resilient water resource management practices, ecosystem restoration, and early warning systems are implemented to improve the resilience of rural communities, with a focus on knowledge management and the inclusion of the community, especially women, in the proper management of wetlands. The project also aims to promote sustainable and climate-adapted socioeconomic development, investing in adaptive water solutions and in the restoration of ecosystem services that wetlands provide. This comprehensive approach, which combines structural and ecosystem-based measures, serves as a model for other regions of Colombia and contributes to climate-informed risk management at the territorial level.
