Resilient and Biodiverse Landscapes of Northern Mesoamerica

Fecha de inicio: 01/09/2023
Fecha de fin: 31/10/2029

Description

The project led by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) aims to reduce poverty and promote sustainable economic development in communities that depend on critical landscapes in the Maya, Moskitia and Trifinio forests. These areas, vital to millions of people, are threatened by climate change and deforestation, so the project focuses on the protection, sustainable management and restoration of these ecosystems, as well as safeguarding their biodiversity. The program includes four key components: strengthening resilient communities with land rights and sustainable sources of income; protecting threatened areas and species; creating policies and financing mechanisms that incentivize forest conservation and the rights of local communities; and a monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure the effectiveness and continued adaptation of the project. This multi-sectoral approach involves civil society, indigenous communities, governments, the private sector and research institutions.
