Drought Information System for Southern South America (SISSA)

Start Date: 04/11/2021
End Date: 03/05/2024

Description

The project aims to implement the Drought Information System for Southern South America (SISSA). The availability of information on droughts, together with improvements in regional institutional capacities, planning and preparation, and risk management governance, will contribute to reducing the considerable economic, social, and environmental impacts of drought on agricultural production, hydroelectric generation, and river navigation in southern South America. This information allows: monitoring and predicting the occurrence of droughts; anticipating the expected impacts on economic sectors and communities; and promoting planning and preparation prior to the occurrence of droughts to mitigate their damage, increase resilience, and reduce vulnerability.
