Cocoa Rehabilitation and Expansion Project in Dominica

Start Date: 01/07/2015
End Date: 01/07/2018

Description

The Dominica Cocoa Rehabilitation and Expansion project seeks to revitalize the cocoa industry on the island, which was previously a major cocoa producer, but currently has many of its plantations abandoned. The project seeks to rehabilitate 400 acres of abandoned cocoa fields and establish 300 acres of new plantations, along with training 419 farmers and building a central purchasing and processing facility. Aiming to diversify agricultural economies and revitalize Dominica's agricultural economy, the project not only seeks to regenerate interest in the cocoa sector by providing incentives and subsidies to cocoa farmers, but also to increase productivity and build a modern facility for the cocoa processing, using advanced technologies to increase productivity and reduce labor.
