Tourism Engine of Local Development Costa Rica

Start Date: 01/01/2019
End Date: 31/12/2023

Description

The project aims to leverage the tourism sector to boost local development in Costa Rica by promoting sustainable value chains in agriculture. Through the public-private partnership between Fundecooperación, the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and other entities, it seeks to improve the life of agricultural communities by identifying market opportunities for their products in the tourism sector. The project focuses on improving institutional coordination, sustainable production practices, and farmers' business skills, as well as increasing demand for sustainable local agricultural products by tourism businesses and improving distribution mechanisms. Key activities include mapping tourism regions with market potential, selecting value chains, inventorying suppliers, strengthening business capabilities among producers, facilitating access to financial resources, and encouraging demand for local and sustainable products. In addition, sustainable supply commitments are signed with tourism companies and tourists are involved to generate demand.
