Fecha de inicio: 01/01/2024
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2029

Description

The National Mesoamerican Critical Forests Project in Guatemala aims to restore 21,303 hectares, mitigate the emission of 2.8 million tons of CO2 and improve the management of 528,366 hectares to benefit 10,000 people, especially women and female single-parent households. This project is carried out in collaboration with several government entities and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), focusing on the Maya and Trifinio Fraternidad Biosphere Reserves in Guatemala. The interventions will be carried out mainly in Petén, where important national parks such as Tikal are located, and in Chiquimula, within the Trifinio Fraternidad reserve. The project seeks to improve governance, protection of threatened species, and the empowerment of local and indigenous communities. In addition, cross-border collaboration with El Salvador will be promoted to strengthen conservation and regional climate resilience.
