Integrated management of the Rhipicephalus microplus tick (Rhipicephalus microplus) on dairy cattle farms

Fecha de inicio: N/A
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

The project seeks to address the problem of the Rhipicephalus microplus tick in cattle, which leads to significant economic losses due to the transmission of hemoparasitic diseases and the high costs associated with its control. In Panama, where this tick is prevalent, control is mainly based on the application of chemicals, which poses risks to the environment and human health. To address this situation, the project proposes an integrated management approach that includes actions such as producer training, farm characterization, tick identification and evaluation of tick sensitivity to chemicals. In addition, biological and cultural control alternatives will be explored, as well as PCR protocols for rapid and accurate diagnosis of tick-borne diseases. Project activities include practical demonstrations, participation in events and dissemination of results in technical and scientific journals.
