Learned lessons
Gained knowledge from implementing, evaluating, and managing a policy intervention, including why it was or was not effective and how it could be improved in the future.
Lesson Description Source
Workshops as the central modality The workshop format strengthened capacities, improved relationships, and enabled progress to be made by consensus Link
Rotation of venues Alternating venues allowed us to learn about the modal systems of the host countries and bring in local actors Link
Own and valued tools The development/adaptation of OLE! was a milestone valued by technicians; together with ML2 and the Rodeo Profile, it enabled the diagnosis, simulation, and monitoring of improvements in a standardized manner. Furthermore, OLE! is open access, which facilitates replication Link
Validation using a common methodology Validation on farms was organized using a uniform methodology: selection of producers/technicians, diagnosis with OLE!, visits, and follow-up with ML2. Link
Regional platform as an enabler The 11-country platform supported inter-agency work, transferred tools, and left behind real capacity for large-scale replication. Link
Clear stages of work on the farm Validation on farms followed three stages: establishment, implementation, and learning/dissemination with tours and discussion Link
Policy guidelines To scale up, policies must be systemic, based on local information, and include an action plan (resources, roles, deadlines, indicators). Link

The digital platform of the Observatory of Public Policies for Agrifood Systems (OPSAa) is at the service of the countries of the Americas as a meeting point for the exchange of knowledge and to promote the new generation of public policies that transform the agrifood systems of the hemisphere.
