Good practices of initiative:

Sustainable and Resilient Agroforestry

Relevance
It measures the alignment of the initiative with existing policy frameworks in the country. In addition, the scalability of the initiative to other realities and geographies is valued.
Marco Description Ambit Country Source
Acuerdo No. 014-2024 Estrategia Nacional de Restauración Forestal de Honduras (ENRF) 2023-2030 The project aligns with Honduras' National Forest Restoration Strategy and contributes to the country's international commitments on climate change and biodiversity. It generates synergies with the government's Agroforests initiative and other ICF projects supported by international cooperation (European Union, KfW, KOICA). National Honduras Link
National Adaptation Plan of Haiti The project directly aligns with Haiti's National Adaptation Plan, which recognizes the agricultural sector as highly vulnerable to climate change. Haiti faces a very high-risk position regarding adverse climate phenomena (hurricanes, tropical storms), with an ND-GAIN index of 35.5 in 2021 (position 169 of 185 countries). Climate models predict temperature increases up to 2.3°C by 2060 and precipitation decreases up to 20% by mid-2030s. The technical cooperation supports agricultural sector adaptation through: (i) strengthening institutional capacities to implement resilient investments; (ii) identifying strategies to improve agricultural productivity in the context of climate change; (iii) prefeasibility studies for irrigation infrastructure rehabilitation that improves resilience. Additionally, it links to the Country Engagement Note for Haiti 2024-2026, specifically with the axis "Improving the business climate to enhance productivity" and the cross-cutting theme of "Increasing Haiti's resilience to external shocks". Eficacy
This measures how well the objectives and goals set out in the initiative were fulfilled, as well as the extent to which the results achieved are attributable to the actions implemented by the initiative.

Learned lessons
Gained knowledge from implementing, evaluating, and managing a policy intervention, including why it was or was not effective and how it could be improved in the future.
Lesson Description Source
Institutional strengthening The sustainability and impact of interventions are favored by the participation and strengthening of the governing entity, with activities anchored in sectoral priorities. Link
Involvement of instances beyond central level Staff located in departmental offices possess fundamental knowledge and experience for project design and implementation, being in direct contact with beneficiaries. Link
Validation of administrative information and databases Forestry and agroforestry activities require updated information consistent with field reality. Absence of precise data can significantly delay implementation. Link
Comprehensive approach Progress in conservation and/or restoration of forest coverage requires a holistic approach addressing different factors contributing to its degradation. Link
Community empowerment as sustainability factor Empowerment of local communities in forestry initiatives strengthens sustainability, generates multiple benefits, and promotes social fabric development. Link
Local capacities and their effect on intervention Knowing beneficiaries' capacity level allows designing more effective intervention strategies and quantitatively evaluating how activities contribute to strengthening those capacities. Link
Importance of technical and financial support Forestry activities, due to their long maturation period, require constant and sustained management. Having technical assistance and timely input provision is key. Link
