Colombias National Climate Change Policy (PNCC) is a document that establishes strategies and actions to promote climate change, adaptation and mitigation in the country. The PNCC was approved by Decree 1490 of 2017 and has an implementation horizon until 2030. The overall objective of the PNCC is to "contribute to advancing on a path of climate-resilient and low-carbon development that reduces the risks associated with alterations due to the effects of climate change." To achieve its objectives, the PNCC establishes the following strategic axes: Governance: Strengthen climate change governance in Colombia, through the creation of the National Climate Change System (SISCLIMA); Knowledge: Generate and disseminate knowledge on climate change, through scientific research and environmental education; Adaptation: Promote adaptation to climate change in the social, economic and environmental sectors; Mitigation: Reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Colombia, through the transition to a low-carbon economy. The PNCC establishes a set of lines of action for each of the strategic axes. Some of the most important lines of action include: Establishment of a climate change monitoring and evaluation system; Development of adaptation plans for the social, economic and environmental sectors; Promotion of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies; Promotion of sustainable mobility; Reduction of deforestation. The PNCC is an important document that can help Colombia address climate change. Effective implementation of the PNCC can help protect the country from the effects of climate change and promote sustainable development. Some of the achievements made thanks to the PNCC include: The reduction of GHG emissions in Colombia; The development of climate change adaptation plans for the social, economic and environmental sectors; Increased investment in renewable energy. The following are some of the main aspects of the PNCC: Governance: The PNCC establishes the SISCLIMA, which is an interinstitutional system that coordinates the actions of the different actors for the development of the policy. The SISCLIMA is led by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development; Knowledge: The PNCC establishes a climate change monitoring and evaluation system to track the evolution of climate change impacts and the effectiveness of mitigation and adaptation measures; Adaptation: The PNCC establishes a comprehensive approach to adaptation, which considers social, economic and environmental aspects; Mitigation: The PNCC establishes a GHG emissions reduction target of 20% by 2030, compared to 2010 levels.
