Description
The Law for Mitigation and Adaptation to the Effects of Climate Change for the State of Colima (LMACCCEC) is a state law in Mexico aimed at establishing the foundations for addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation in the state of Colima. It was approved in 2023 and came into effect on January 1, 2024. The law seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt the state to the impacts of climate change, and promote sustainable development. To achieve these goals, it establishes tools such as the State Program for Action on Climate Change (PEACC), the State Climate Change System (SECCC), and the State Climate Change Fund (FECCC). The LMACCCEC is guided by principles that include integration into all public policies, citizen participation, and equity. Its effective implementation has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt the state to climate changes, and promote sustainable development. The law is periodically updated to incorporate scientific advances and international best practices. Specific measures established include energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy, deforestation reduction, waste management, and the implementation of adaptation plans, resilient infrastructure, and education and awareness programs.
