The Law for Climate Change Action of the State of Jalisco (LACCEJ) is a Mexican state law aimed at establishing the foundations for climate change action in the state of Jalisco. The law was approved by the State Congress of Jalisco in 2015 and came into effect in 2016. LACCEJ sets the following general objectives: To reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the state of Jalisco; To adapt the state of Jalisco to the effects of climate change; To promote sustainable development in the state of Jalisco. To achieve these objectives, LACCEJ establishes the following instruments: The State Program for Climate Change Action (PEACC), which is a planning instrument that outlines the strategies and actions for climate change action in the state of Jalisco; The State Climate Change System (SECCC), which is an interinstitutional system that coordinates the actions of various stakeholders for climate change action in the state of Jalisco; The State Climate Change Fund (FECCC), which is a fund used to finance mitigation and adaptation actions to climate change in the state of Jalisco. LACCEJ also sets the following guiding principles: Cross-cutting nature, meaning that climate change action must be considered in all public policies and programs in the state of Jalisco; Citizen participation, implying that civil society must be a key player in climate change action in the state of Jalisco; Equity, meaning that mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change must be fair and equitable for all sectors of society. LACCEJ is an essential instrument for climate change action in the state of Jalisco. The effective implementation of the law can help Jalisco reduce its GHG emissions, adapt to the effects of climate change, and promote sustainable development. Key points of LACCEJ include: The law establishes the general objectives of reducing GHG emissions, adapting the state to the effects of climate change, and promoting sustainable development; The law establishes the instruments to achieve these objectives, including PEACC, SECCC, and FECCC; The law sets the guiding principles for climate change action in the state of Jalisco.
