Description

The Organic Law on Agrobiodiversity, Seeds, and Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture in Ecuador (LOASFS) is a national law enacted in 2018 and effective since 2019. Its main objective is to protect, conserve, manage, and sustainably use agrobiodiversity, seeds, and agricultural systems in Ecuador. The law aims to ensure access and availability of quality seeds for all farmers and promote sustainable agriculture. To achieve these goals, it establishes tools such as the National Agrobiodiversity System, the National Agrobiodiversity Fund, and the National Germplasm Bank. The LOASFS is based on principles like food sovereignty, food security, and equity in access to agrobiodiversity and seeds.
