Description
The Law of the State of Veracruz, Mexico, is designed to address and respond to the challenges imposed by climate change at the state level. It details a series of key definitions related to climate change, establishes the principles under which policies and strategies will be developed, and creates a State Council for Mitigation and Adaptation to the Effects of Climate Change. This council is responsible for the formulation and implementation of the state strategy, which will include specific actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the resilience of ecosystems and human communities to the adverse effects of climate change. In addition, the active participation of the state's inhabitants is promoted in actions to mitigate and prevent vulnerability to climate change, and establishes specific goals and objectives for mitigation and adaptation. Actions to integrate mitigation and adaptation into state development and planning programs are also highlighted, and obligations are established for municipalities in terms of formulation and execution of their own climate change programs.
