Description

The Environmental Protection Law of the State of Tabasco, Law No. 127, was enacted on May 29, 1999, with the aim of regulating all types of activities to safeguard the environment, considered a collective legal asset. The law sets forth the following objectives: to prevent and control environmental pollution, protect natural resources, and promote sustainable development. It establishes a state-level environmental protection system, led by the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources of the State of Tabasco (SEMARNAT), based on a periodically updated state environmental protection plan. The law encompasses institutional components involving SEMARNAT, municipal governments, civil society organizations, and other pertinent stakeholders, grounded in state environmental protection policies and strategies. This law plays a pivotal role in advancing environmental protection in Tabasco, providing a structured framework for implementing measures to safeguard the environment, natural resources, and promote sustainable development.
