The Policy seeks to reduce the vulnerability of the island to a variety of natural and anthropogenic hazards, its main objective is to establish a robust and strategic framework to reduce the adverse impacts of these hazards, integrating risk mitigation in all facets of national development and community activity. It is based on principles of sustainable development and seeks to incorporate mitigation measures in the planning and activities of the public and private sectors, as well as among local communities. In addition, it establishes a series of priority strategic objectives and actions, such as strengthening the legal and institutional framework for risk mitigation, improving education and public awareness of disaster risks, and promoting more active participation of all interest groups in risk reduction. The policy also highlights the importance of integrating disaster risk management into the development planning process at all levels, promoting effective collaboration between the various actors involved.
