Fecha de inicio: 09/05/1992
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an international treaty signed in 1992, which entered into force in 1994. Its primary purpose is to address the global challenges of climate change and establish a legal framework for international efforts to mitigate its effects. This convention recognizes the existence of anthropogenic climate change and the need for international cooperation to combat it, while underscoring the importance of equity and the shared but differentiated responsibility of developing and developed countries. The UNFCCC includes clear goals to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that prevents dangerous human interference with the climate system. To achieve this, the convention promotes and guides national policies and measures towards reducing emissions and adapting to climate change, also highlighting the importance of carbon sinks such as forests. Emphasis is placed on the need for effective technology transfer, education, training, and public awareness to confront climate change. In addition, it establishes a framework for financial assistance, with a special emphasis on supporting developing countries in their mitigation and adaptation efforts.
