Peru’s Nationally Determined Contributions: Update Report, 2021–2030 Period

Peru’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) establishes the country’s greenhouse gas mitigation and climate change adaptation commitments for the 2021–2030 period under the Paris Agreement. For mitigation, it sets an unconditional target of not exceeding 208.8 MtCO₂eq by 2030 and a conditional target of up to 179.0 MtCO₂eq, equivalent to reductions of 30% and 40%, respectively, compared with the reference scenario used in the 2015 NDC. It covers energy; industrial processes and product use; waste; land use, land-use change and forestry; and agriculture. For adaptation, it prioritizes agriculture, forests, fisheries and aquaculture, health, and water, while adding tourism and transport as new thematic areas, with measures aimed at reducing vulnerability, strengthening resilience, and managing climate-related risks.
