Legislative Decree No. 606 – Special Law for the Environmental Trust for the Conservation of Coffee Forests (FICAFE)

Special law of El Salvador exceptionally extending for up to five years the term of the Environmental Trust for the Conservation of Coffee Forests (FICAFE), allowing the coffee sector to continue benefiting from its financial conditions. The trust channels mechanisms linked to coffee production and export credit portfolios to provide liquidity, support the renewal and conservation of coffee-growing areas, and facilitate compliance with credit obligations. The measure responds to price volatility, coffee rust, droughts, climate change, and variations in temperature and rainfall patterns affecting coffee production and quality. The law authorizes adjustments to FICAFE’s legal and financial instruments and its fiduciary participation certificates to implement the extension.
