Bolivia's Plurinational Policy and Strategy for the Integrated and Sustainable Management of Biodiversity — Action Plan 2019–2030

Bolivia's Plurinational Policy and Strategy for the Integrated and Sustainable Management of Biodiversity, together with its 2019–2030 Action Plan, was prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Water and adopted on December 28, 2018. It serves as the national planning instrument guiding biodiversity conservation, sustainable use and management under the principle of Living Well in Harmony with Mother Earth. The strategy is organized around five strategic areas addressing the strengthening of the regulatory framework and governance, territorial biodiversity management, conservation and sustainable use of species and ecosystems, biodiversity mainstreaming in economic and productive activities, and knowledge generation and management. It promotes the participation of Indigenous and local communities, coordination among levels of government, improved management of protected areas, forests and wetlands, and the integration of scientific knowledge with traditional knowledge. It also seeks to contribute to food sovereignty and territorial development through sustainable biological resource management. The Action Plan provides policy directions and measures for 2019–2030. The stated results are policy objectives and should not be interpreted as impacts already achieved.
