Brazil Safeguard Rules for International Trade Agreements

Brazil issued a decree establishing rules for the application of safeguard measures under international trade agreements. The measure allows temporary protection mechanisms when increased imports from countries with which Brazil has trade agreements cause or threaten to cause serious injury to domestic producers. The instrument is framed in the context of the Mercosur-European Union agreement and seeks to provide trade defense mechanisms for sensitive productive sectors facing trade liberalization processes.
