IDB Program to Help Farmers and Boost Food Security in Panama

Description

The Inter-American Development Bank approved a 41 million dollar program to improve food security and support farmers in Panama. The initiative seeks to increase farm profitability while strengthening environmental sustainability and resilience to climate change, pests, disease and market fluctuations. The program will promote agroecological farming systems through innovation vouchers exchangeable for inputs and technology, technical assistance, participatory research, reduction of post-harvest losses, value addition, market access, support for agricultural associations, cooperatives and family farming groups, and technological strengthening of IDIAP and MIDA.
