Resolution No. SNGR-117-2026: Preventive Yellow Alert for the Potential 2026-2027 El Niño Event in Ecuador

Resolution No. SNGR-117-2026, signed on 18 May 2026 by Ecuador National Secretariat for Risk Management, declares a preventive yellow alert in anticipation of the potential development of the 2026-2027 El Niño event. The alert covers identified areas in 17 provinces, 143 cantons and 491 parishes, primarily territories located at elevations of up to 1,500 meters above sea level. The declaration is an early preparedness measure and does not confirm that an El Niño event is occurring. The resolution calls on decentralized autonomous governments to activate Emergency Operations Committees where appropriate and strengthen territorial coordination mechanisms.
