"The Argentine government has made water a pillar of its action plan for the period 2016-2019, with the aim of eradicating poverty in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals through the use and exploitation of water resources. To achieve this, the National Water Plan has been drawn up as a planning tool that seeks to implement a water policy in line with these global goals. The Plan responds to the ""lack of planning and responsible thinking that led large sections of society to become accustomed to living without essential basic services such as access to water, thinking that this was normal."" Such planning must overcome, through infrastructure, the uneven distribution of water resources, with 84% of the total in the provinces of the La Plata Basin and the remaining two-thirds of the territory consisting of arid and semi-arid regions. Of the total renewable water resources, only about 7.5% is used annually in the country for various purposes, which means that the potential for water-based development is enormous.
