Integrated Rural Development Strategy “Quito Rural” 2023–2027

Start Date: 01/03/2024
End Date: N/A

Description

The Integrated Rural Development Strategy “Quito Rural” 2023–2027, prepared by the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito through the General Secretariat for Territorial Coordination, Governance and Participation, establishes a planning and coordination framework to promote integrated development in Quito's rural parishes. The document, dated March 1, 2024, organizes municipal intervention around two main mechanisms: an investment framework for rural development projects implemented by rural parish decentralized autonomous governments with municipal funding, and intersectoral coordination among municipal agencies to address the needs and potential of rural territories. The strategy recognizes territorial differences among peri-urban parishes, productive rural areas and territories associated with ecosystem services. It seeks to strengthen institutional coordination, territorial public investment and integration between urban and rural areas. Its relevance to agrifood systems lies in territorial management and the development of rural productive activities, including agriculture. The strategy establishes objectives, implementation mechanisms and intervention priorities, but its formulation does not itself demonstrate achieved economic, social or environmental impacts.
