Mexico’s Sustainable Taxonomy is a public financial policy instrument that classifies economic activities with positive environmental and social impacts, providing a reference framework to steer sustainable finance. Its purpose is to mobilize and redirect public and private capital toward projects that contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation and to reducing social gaps, with an emphasis on gender equality. It is a non-binding national standard intended to enhance market certainty, improve transparency, and mitigate greenwashing risk. The first edition was presented by the Ministry of Finance on March 16, 2023. Its scope is cross-cutting and sector-agnostic, intended for use by issuers, investors, regulators, and other financial system actors.
