Sugar Fortification with Vitamin "A" Law

This law establishes the obligation to fortify all centrifuged sugar intended for domestic consumption with Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A) to control and prevent nutritional deficiency in the Salvadoran population. The regulation assigns specific responsibilities to sugar mills and establishes a fortification level of 15 micrograms per gram of sugar. The state agencies responsible for implementation are the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance and the Ministry of Economy, who supervise compliance through periodic monitoring and import controls. The law includes specific technical procedures for fortification, packaging and storage, as well as sanctions for non-compliance ranging from fines to product confiscation.
