The National Environmental Policy of El Salvador is a public policy instrument that establishes effective strategies to face the main environmental challenges affecting Salvadoran society. Its general objective is to incorporate sustainability criteria into the development model in the face of major climate and environmental challenges, harmonizing social, environmental and economic spheres. The policy is structured around four specific objectives: water resources management for their security, climate risk management and transition to a low-carbon economy, biodiversity integration in development activities, and integration of the environmental component in territorial planning. It establishes guidelines and strategic actions to achieve sustainable development that protects natural resources and reduces the country's climate vulnerability.
