TFA 2020 Colombia Alliance: Objectives and Action Lines for Deforestation-Free Agricultural Supply Chains

The TFA 2020 Colombia Alliance is a voluntary public-private and multi-stakeholder collaboration platform launched on November 28, 2017. It brings together government institutions, businesses, civil society organizations, multilateral entities and international cooperation partners to promote deforestation-free agricultural commodity supply chains. The document Objectives, Action Lines and Members sets out the alliance's vision, collaborative objectives and areas of work aimed at expanding stakeholder participation, exchanging knowledge, coordinating initiatives and promoting actions and incentives to transform supply chains associated with tropical deforestation. The initiative is linked to commodities such as palm oil, soy and beef, as well as the protection of tropical forests and landscapes. The alliance seeks to facilitate coordination among public and private stakeholders and support voluntary commitments to reduce deforestation associated with agricultural sourcing. It is a collaborative initiative rather than a law, regulation or legally binding policy instrument. The sector-specific zero-deforestation agreements subsequently developed in Colombia are related but distinct initiatives. For PAESA purposes, the alliance constitutes a cooperation and coordination framework for sustainable agricultural supply chains, with objectives related to ecosystem conservation and deforestation reduction. The outcomes described are intended commitments and expected effects, not independently verified environmental impacts.
