The Status of Women in Agrifood Systems – A Regional Approach for Latin America and the Caribbean

Fecha de inicio: 2025
Fecha de fin: 2025

Description

The report provides an in-depth analysis of the conditions, challenges, and inequalities faced by women in agrifood systems across Latin America and the Caribbean. Using updated data and an intersectional approach, it highlights gender gaps in access to productive resources, services, decent employment, and land rights, as well as disparities in economic outcomes, food security, and exposure to gender-based violence. The report emphasizes that, despite legal and policy advances, structural social and economic barriers continue to limit the empowerment of rural women. It also examines how crises such as climate change, COVID-19, and armed conflict affect women and girls differently. Beyond identifying existing inequalities, the report promotes a transformative shift toward more just, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems, proposing concrete actions to achieve gender equality in rural development throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
