Description
ENECA-ELS 2015 constitutes a descriptive cross-sectional study at national level that seeks to obtain updated information on the prevalence, spatial distribution and sociodemographic characteristics of chronic non-communicable diseases in the Salvadoran adult population. The survey specifically addresses chronic kidney disease, arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus, as well as behavioral, biological and non-traditional associated risk factors. It was implemented through stratified random sampling in three age groups (20-40 years, 41-60 years and over 60 years) in urban and rural areas. The methodology included questionnaire, physical measurements and biochemical tests following the three steps recommended by PAHO/WHO. The results provide strategic baseline for implementing prevention strategies and public health decision-making.
