Peru: Law No. 31073 – Amendment to Law No. 29676 on the Development of Agricultural Producers' Markets

Law No. 31073 modifies and strengthens the framework of Law No. 29676 with the aim of promoting the development of agricultural producers' markets. Its main goal is to enhance market integration for rural and native communities and facilitate direct sales between producers and final consumers, thereby boosting the rural economy. The law stipulates that these markets must be composed exclusively of registered and certified producers, as recognized by the Regional Agricultural Directorates or other competent authorities. Non-producer intermediaries are explicitly excluded. These markets may operate in authorized public or private spaces, are held on a weekly basis, and have an indefinite duration. Producer participation depends on their level of association.
