National Biotrade Strategy and Action Plan to 2025 (Supreme Decree No. 008-2016-MINCETUR)

Start Date: 2016
End Date: 2025

Description

The National Biotrade Strategy and Action Plan to 2025, approved by Supreme Decree No. 008-2016-MINCETUR, establish a national planning framework to promote economic activities based on the sustainable use of Peru's native biodiversity. The strategy links biodiversity conservation and sustainable use with value chain development, improved competitiveness and market access for biotrade products and services. It provides for institutional coordination, improvements in the enabling environment for biotrade, commercial promotion and capacity development among actors involved in biodiversity-based value chains. Its implementation involves public institutions and productive and business stakeholders engaged in the sustainable use of biological resources. For PAESA purposes, its direct relevance is concentrated in agricultural and forest-based activities associated with biodiversity products and their value chains. The strategy is not a general policy covering all agricultural production and does not itself establish subsidies, credit facilities, mandatory public procurement or specific infrastructure investments. Its planning horizon ended in 2025, which does not automatically imply repeal of the approving decree or termination of all biotrade activities.
