Description

The Regulation approved by Supreme Decree No. 012-2023-MINAM develops the provisions of Law No. 29811, which establishes the moratorium on the entry and production of living modified organisms (LMOs) in the national territory, adapting to the new term established by Law No. 31111, which extends the moratorium until December 31, 2035. Its purpose is to prevent the release into the environment of LMOs for cultivation or breeding purposes, including aquatic ones, and to strengthen national capacities through the development of infrastructure and baselines for risk assessment and management. The regulation applies to LMOs intended for release into the environment, and excludes those used in confined space research, those used in pharmaceuticals or veterinary products regulated by international treaties, and LMOs or their derivatives imported for direct feeding or processing.
