Peru: Regulation of the National System of Pesticides for Agricultural Use (Supreme Decree N° 001-2015-MINAGRI)

Supreme Decree No. 001-2015-MINAGRI approves the Regulation of the National System of Pesticides for Agricultural Use, which aims to establish a system that ensures the protection of human health and the environment, as well as the biological efficacy of pesticides, promoting their responsible use through good agricultural practices at all stages of their life cycle. All agricultural pesticides imported, formulated, produced, packaged, distributed or marketed in the country must be registered with SENASA. This requirement applies to chemical and biological pesticides, including microbial biological control agents (such as bacteria, fungi, viruses), plant extracts, mineral preparations, semiochemicals (pheromones and allelochemicals), growth regulators and atypical products. Registration is also mandatory for inputs made from living modified organisms (LMOs), fertilizers and adjuvants of biological origin, non-synthetic plant extracts, non-synthetic mineral preparations, microorganisms with symbiotic action, parasitoids, predators and microbial toxins. It should be noted that in the case of biocidal inputs produced and used by family farmers, their use is permitted, but their commercialization is prohibited.
