Sanitary Regulation for the Production and Marketing of Genetic Material from Production Animals (Supreme Decree No. 010-2022-MIDAGRI)

Supreme Decree No. 010-2022-MIDAGRI, published on June 30, 2022, approves the Sanitary Regulation for the Production and Marketing of Genetic Material from Production Animals. It establishes sanitary requirements applicable to individuals and legal entities involved in the production, storage and marketing of semen, oocytes and embryos from production animals. The regulation governs sanitary authorizations for establishments and mobile units, infrastructure requirements, responsible professionals, recordkeeping and reporting obligations, sanitary conditions for donor animals, quarantine, diagnostic testing and animal welfare measures. It establishes identification requirements for donor animals and genetic material, sanitary inspections, epidemiological surveillance and disease notification. It also regulates sanitary requirements for imports and exports of animal genetic material, sanitary education activities and an administrative infringement and sanctions regime enforced by the National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA). Its purpose is to prevent the spread of diseases affecting production animals and Peru's animal health status. It does not establish a genetic improvement program, livestock credit scheme, production subsidy or infrastructure investment program.
