Description
The Multisectoral Strategic Plan for Gender Equality (PEMIG) aims to ensure the implementation of the National Gender Equality Policy at the national, regional and local levels. To this end, the public entities responsible for the provision of the services prioritised in this policy must execute the PEMIG and adopt the necessary actions to achieve the established goals, within the established deadlines. The Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP) is the governing body of the National Policy on Gender Equality, with the power to coordinate, coordinate across sectors, monitor, evaluate and provide technical assistance to the public entities involved. The MIMP also promotes the creation and strengthening of inter-institutional mechanisms at regional and local levels that contribute to the effective implementation of this policy. The General Directorate for Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination of the MIMP is in charge of the operational management of the policy. This National Policy establishes six priority objectives: (i) reduce violence against women; (ii) guarantee the exercise of women's sexual and reproductive rights; (iii) ensure their access to and participation in decision-making spaces; (iv) guarantee the exercise of their economic and social rights; (v) reduce institutional barriers that impede equality between men and women in the public and private spheres; and (vi) reduce the influence of discriminatory socio-cultural patterns in the population.
