Peru: Law N⁰ 31477 promoting actions for food recovery

The purpose of this law is to promote measures aimed at the recovery of food of agricultural, fishing and aquaculture origin that is suitable for direct human consumption, with the aim of serving the population in vulnerable situations, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 30988, Law that promotes the reduction and prevention of food losses and waste. It also establishes guidelines for the implementation of food recovery mechanisms in the country's food markets, allowing their classification, selection and distribution to people living in poverty and extreme poverty through social organisations authorised for this purpose. Finally, the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion, in coordination with regional and local governments and competent sectors, is entrusted with the creation and strengthening of the national registry of final recipients.
