Peru: Amendment to the Environmental Management Regulations for Industry and Internal Trade (Supreme Decree No. 012-2024-PRODUCE)

Supreme Decree No. 012-2024-PRODUCE amended the Environmental Management Regulations for the Manufacturing Industry and Domestic Trade and the Citizen Participation Regulations, incorporating key provisions related to environmental responsibility and obligations of the owner, strengthening environmental monitoring, improving the evaluation process for environmental management instruments (EMI), and the early classification of projects. It also regulates aspects such as cases in which an EMI is not required, notification of the start of construction works, actions that do not require amending the EMI, updating and modifying corrective EMIs (DAA, PAMA), and introduces new environmental technical provisions, with the aim of strengthening the effectiveness and coherence of the environmental management system in these sectors.
