Description
Resolution N°008-2020-MINAGRI-INIA-DRGB approves the Guide for the Recognition of Agrobiodiversity Zones in Peru. The recognition of an Agrobiodiversity Zone is obtained through a process initiated by the Indigenous Peoples, which culminates with the issuance of a Ministerial Resolution by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI), after a favorable technical evaluation by the National Institute for Agrarian Innovation (INIA). The preparation of the technical dossier is the responsibility of the indigenous peoples, who may receive technical support from experts from public entities (such as Regional or Local Governments, institutes, among others) or private entities, both national and international. This technical dossier is a document that justifies the request for recognition of an Agrobiodiversity Zone (ZABD). The indigenous or peasant communities interested in obtaining recognition must present the dossier with the information on the indigenous people and the proposed area to the Office of Citizen Attention and Documentary Management (OACGD) of MINAGRI. INIA, through the Directorate of Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (DRGB), carries out a direct inspection at the site to verify that the necessary conditions for recognition are met, drawing up a signed report together with the indigenous representatives. This inspection is previously notified to the indigenous people. In addition, MINAGRI, through INIA and in coordination with the competent authorities, will carry out periodic monitoring and evaluations in the recognized Agrobiodiversity Zones to assess the state of conservation of agrobiodiversity and the factors that affect it; the results of these monitoring and evaluations are binding for the indigenous communities and support the decisions taken by MINAGRI on these zones.
