The Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) Policy establishes the regulatory framework for access, use, and fair and equitable distribution of benefits derived from genetic resources in the Dominican Republic. This policy articulates principles, norms, and procedures to protect national biodiversity while promoting its sustainable use and the recognition of associated traditional knowledge. It seeks to generate socioeconomic development opportunities through the valorization of genetic resources, ensuring benefits for local communities and the country. It represents a fundamental instrument for the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol in the Dominican context.
