National Conservation Plan for Threatened Primates in Peru 2019-2029

National management instrument approved through Executive Directorate Resolution No. 237-2019-MINAGRI-SERFOR-DE, published on November 12, 2019, establishing priority actions to conserve threatened primate populations and their critical habitats in Peru during 2019-2029. Coordinated by the National Forest and Wildlife Service (SERFOR), the plan has four specific objectives: restoring critical habitats for threatened primates; reducing illegal hunting and capture; generating reliable information for their management and conservation; and strengthening governance and participatory management. It establishes eight action areas covering habitat identification and restoration, threat reduction, scientific research, information management, capacity building, citizen participation and environmental education. Measures include territorial conservation, control of illegal wildlife trafficking, population monitoring and coordination among forestry and environmental authorities and local stakeholders. Its 2029 targets include reducing the threat category of at least 27 percent of threatened primate species by one level, promoting conservation initiatives across 500,000 hectares of critical habitats and strengthening population monitoring and protection. Its primary purpose is biodiversity conservation and natural habitat recovery rather than agricultural production support.
