Management Plan for the Protected Areas of Galápagos for Good Living

Management plan approved through Ministerial Agreement No. 162 of June 9, 2014, published in Official Gazette, Special Edition No. 153, on July 22, 2014. It establishes an integrated environmental management model for Galápagos National Park and the Galápagos Marine Reserve, treating the archipelago as a socioecological system. Its objective is to conserve ecological integrity, biodiversity and natural processes in terrestrial and marine ecosystems, maintain their capacity to provide ecosystem services, and promote the rational use of natural resources. The plan addresses protected area planning and zoning, ecosystem conservation and restoration, environmental monitoring, scientific and technical information management, regulation and control of activities, environmental education, social participation and interinstitutional coordination. It promotes coordination between protected area management, territorial planning and resident communities in Galápagos. Its primary purpose is protected area conservation and sustainable management rather than agricultural production support.
