Ten-Year Action Plan for the Prevention, Management and Control of Exotic Species in Continental Ecuador

Ten-year action plan of Ecuador's Ministry of Environment, officially adopted through Ministerial Agreement No. 007 of January 16, 2019, published in Official Gazette No. 419 on February 1, 2019. Its objective is to coordinate actions among competent institutions for the prevention, management and control of exotic species in continental Ecuador, taking environmental, economic and social factors into account. The plan establishes six areas of intervention: strengthening the environmental regulatory framework; intra- and interinstitutional coordination; development of financing mechanisms; scientific research and information management; education, training, communication and participation; and exotic species management through prevention, early warning, rapid response, mitigation, containment, control and eradication systems. It seeks to reduce the risks and impacts of biological invasions on biodiversity and ecosystems, strengthen institutional capacities and improve information for decision-making. Although it recognizes potential impacts on agriculture and other economic sectors, its primary objective is the environmental management of exotic species.
