Standards on Environmental Assessment of Activities Susceptible to Degrade the Environment

Decree No. 1.257 establishes procedures for the environmental assessment of activities that may degrade the environment in Venezuela, incorporating the environmental variable in decision-making. It contemplates various evaluation mechanisms such as Environmental Impact Studies, Specific Environmental Assessments, and simplified requirements according to the nature and potential impact of each project. It establishes specific procedures for mining and hydrocarbon activities, as well as mechanisms for citizen participation and environmental supervision. It determines the requirements for environmental consultants in charge of preparing such studies.
