The Suriname National REDD+ Strategy is a policy instrument aiming to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation while preserving its 93% forest cover and low deforestation rate through four strategic lines. These include compensation for forest maintenance, sustainable forest management with stakeholder participation, land use planning, and conservation, reforestation, research, and education. It was developed through a participatory process including national, local, and community consultations. The framework prioritizes indigenous and tribal rights, economic diversification, land tenure, and forest monitoring. It aligns with the 2017–2021 National Development Plan and international climate commitments.
