The Costa Rica National REDD+ Strategy is a public policy aimed at reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation through six coordinated and inclusive lines of action. These include promoting low-carbon productive systems, controlling land-use change and fires, conservation incentives, landscape restoration, indigenous participation, and enabling conditions. The strategy aligns with the National Forest Development Plan and was developed through broad consultations with social, political, and environmental sectors. It aims to generate multiple benefits such as ecological resilience, social well-being, institutional coherence, and forest sector competitiveness. It is in force from 2017 to 2025 and responds to international climate commitments and safeguards.
