The National Forest Policy of Suriname aims to enhance the contribution of forests to the national economy and the welfare of current and future generations, taking into account the preservation of biodiversity. It has three equally important goals: economic (efficient and sustainable use of forests), socio-cultural (improving the subsistence level of indigenous and maroon communities) and environmental (conservation of forests with protective functions). To achieve these objectives, it focuses on land use planning, increasing income from forest products, and protecting the environmental functions of forests.
