Ministerial Agreement No. 033 - Regulations Governing the Implementation of the REDD+ Mechanism in Ecuador

Ministerial Agreement No. 033 of Ecuador's Ministry of Environment, signed on April 5, 2013, and published in Official Gazette No. 17 on June 18, 2013. It established regulations for implementing the REDD+ mechanism throughout Ecuador. The agreement governed activities aimed at reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, conserving and enhancing forest carbon stocks, and promoting sustainable forest management. It designated the Ministry of Environment as the National REDD+ Authority and established two implementation levels: national jurisdiction and projects. It regulated mandatory registration, approval and monitoring of REDD+ activities, national accounting of emission reductions, social and environmental safeguards, participation of Indigenous peoples and communities, and results-based benefit-sharing arrangements. The agreement was repealed by Ministerial Agreement No. 116 of November 7, 2016, which established new REDD+ implementation guidelines and adopted the REDD+ Action Plan Forests for Good Living.
